Solar Powered Post Light

A solar powered post light is, as its name suggest, basically a solar light fixture capable of being mounted on a post or on a pillar, or with regard to the larger ones, some products already come in one piece with a post or pillar. They can be used in different ways, but one of their main characteristics which will affect how they are used is their height. For instance, let's take the situation where the owner has a driveway leading from the road in front of his property, through the front yard, all the way up to his garage. Now, perhaps that driveway isn't lit properly, which is a problem because you then face all sorts of potential risks. A vehicle driving up the driveway might accidentally brush up against the fence alongside the front opening, leading to some amount of property damage both to the house as well as the car. Or perhaps the vehicle might accidentally drive off the driveway, since the driver couldn't quite see the edges of the driveway, and in the process damage the grass of the lawn, or maybe run over some lawn fixtures. So it's important for these and for other reasons to make sure that the entrance to the driveway is well lit (so that cars won't accidentally hit the opening in the gate) as well as the length of the driveway leading up to the garage (so that cars won't accidentally drive off into the grass).

For a particular task such as this, a light fixture of a certain height is required. It may be helpful to people to have lights placed alongside the path which are low to the ground, but this isn't ideal for someone who is behind the wheel. A set of lights which a pedestrian is able to easily see and navigate with, might be partially or completely unable to help the driver of a vehicle, since he won't be able to see them since they're so low. What is needed here is height, so that even for someone seated behind the wheel of a car or some larger vehicle, the lights will be located in an optimal position, allowing him to see the lights as he drives along, and allowing the lights to illuminate the area properly so he can clearly see where he is going, while he is driving. Height is something that a solar powered post light has, which makes it particularly well suited to this particular job. For instance, again, some of these solar lights are basically a tall post or pillar or something that looks like a long stake or stick, and at the end of it, you have the light bulbs and solar panel. It's the base of the device which gives it height, and the height of each light product is something that you'll want to consider carefully before making a purchase. How high a light do you need? This will depend on the height of your vehicle, for instance. It will also depend on how the solar light will be installed. Some products have more of a traditional base, similar to how many non-solar light posts look. In order to install them, you basically screw or bolt them into the pavement or cement or other hard material. So that will be a consideration in terms of measuring for the height you need. Other solar lights however come in more of a stake kind of design. They don't attach to the pavement by using bolts or screws. Instead, in order to install them, you simply drive them into the ground. This has the advantage of ease of installation since there's no need to mess with any equipment in order to set it in place. You just drive it in to a decent depth so that it won't topple over, and you're done. It also has the advantage of portability because if you decide later that the light isn't in the proper spot after all, you just pull it out and drive it back in in a better location.

If the light comes in more of a stake design, this will have to be taken into consideration in terms of measuring its height, since after all, some of the length of the stake will be located underground. You'll have to determine just how deep it needs to go in order to stay in place, and stay level. This is important especially since you don't want the light post to topple onto the vehicle as you drive by. So again, the length of the solar light which will be located below ground will have to be considered when determining whether a particular product has the necessary height to accomplish the job in your home. Now, this all becomes less of an issue in the situation where you already have driveway or post lights in your home, and you simply want to replace the lamps located at the top of those posts or pillars. Perhaps you already have these installed, except that the lamps make use of more conventional sources of electricity, and you're looking to replace these with lamps that run on the energy of the sun. In this case, you don't have to worry as much about the height of the device you'll be purchasing, assuming that you're already satisfied with the height of the posts already installed. You'll just basically be removing the existing lamps and swapping in solar powered lamps.

So instead of worrying about the height of the solar lights, you'll just need to make sure that the devices you get have a way of securely attaching to the top of the posts or pillars, usually through screws or bolts. Now, you'll be looking at other things, such as the amount of light that the device is able to give off. After all, if you're used to a certain amount of light from your existing light setup, you'll want to know if the new lamps you'll be getting will be able to match that amount of illumination. Thankfully, this shouldn't usually be a problem because a solar powered post light is usually designed precisely with the knowledge that it will be lighting areas such as driveways, or entrances to gates, or other similar areas in need of much illumination.
