Solar Powered Deck Lights | Pool

Solar powered deck lights make for a great addition to any pool deck. In fact, they are particularly well suited to installation alongside or beside a swimming pool or similar body of water, precisely because they are solar powered. Consider the more usual situation where more traditional forms of lighting are installed into such an area. Once the installation has been done, and the light fixtures are in place, there is still the problem of how to power the lights. For other forms of lighting, there is usually the need to connect a certain amount of wiring to the particular light in question, and then run the wiring back to an electrical outlet or power source. Now this is the situation to be dealt with when there is only one light. Consider what happens if a person were to install a dozen lights or more into the deck surrounding a swimming pool. That will mean that wiring will have to be installed which connects to each of these lights, which wiring will extend back to a main power source. That amount of wiring adds to the work required to finish the actual installation, and some provision will have to be made for where the wiring will be located and where it will pass, as it runs from the light fixtures to the power source.

Solar powered deck lights don’t require this type of wiring, because instead of getting their energy from a central power source, each individual light fixture already has its own means of generating power, in the form of a solar panel or panels. So each individual light is quite independent. It only needs to be installed in its particular place, one which receives enough sunlight during the day, and that’s it. Another issue to be considered is that when these lights are installed in these particular locations, they will find themselves located very near large bodies of water, because the deck is beside a swimming pool, a pond, or something similar. For other forms of lighting, with their meters of wiring, this is a concern because clearly water and electricity do not mix. So additional consideration of how to ensure that the wiring does not come into contact with the water, and is of adequate robustness, sturdiness and durability, to ensure that even over time, there will not be a problem. Solar lights offer less of a concern regarding this because there is no need to install wiring which leads back to the house or property electrical grid. So this is one area where solar powered deck lights can offer a property owner a little bit more peace of mind.
