Solar Powered Motion Light

Solar powered motion light products offer one way to increase the security and safety of a particular property, while at the same time doing so in a way which doesn’t add to the electric bill of the property, and which watches out for concerns relating to the environment. In that way, it involves hitting at least two birds with one stone, so this product offers a good alternative for persons with different interests. For those persons who simply wish to make a particular property safer and more secure, this product will work for them. For persons who are looking to secure their property but in a way which is relatively green, this product will work for them as well. So again, this device offers a rather handy mix of benefits.

Now solar powered motion light devices have much in common with other forms of solar lights. There is usually a solar panel attached to the device, either built into the device or more commonly as a separate piece, but which is connected to the main light structure by a cord of some length. This is done because there may very well be cases where the areas that the property owner wishes to secure during the night from intruders, such as side yards, or other fairly dark passages, may also be rather dark during the day, because of shade or some other obstruction affecting the amount of sunlight that is able to penetrate. What this means is that if the solar panel and the light fixture are housed in one structure, and that structure is located in that particular area, then there is a good chance that the solar panel will not be able to absorb much energy during the day, or even over the course of several days, so that the solar motion light will thereby be rendered useless at night, for lack of available accumulated solar energy. In order to get around this quite possible problem, the makers of these motion lights designed their products in such a way that the solar panel and the light fixture are kept separate though connected, so that it is possible to attach the light fixture to the precise area that the person wishes to secure better, and then from there run the cord over to a nearby location which receives an ample amount of sunlight during the day. This type of setup thereby gets around the problem mentioned earlier.

One other thing that sets solar powered motion light products apart from other kinds of solar lights is the type of bulb that goes into these devices. Many of the other types of solar lights make use of LEDs and this is the case because of certain important reasons. For one, this type of bulb uses relatively low amounts of energy in order to generate their illumination. This is particularly important for devices which receive their power from the sun, because depending on the amount of sunlight on a given day as well as other circumstances, the amount of solar energy accumulated over a given amount of time may be less than ideal. Therefore these types of device need to be able to function as much as possible with as little waste of energy, and with as judicious use of the energy available as possible. Since the amount of energy available may be limited, this only makes it that much more important for any use of the energy to use as little as possible, and LEDs are particularly good at this because they pretty much just sip energy when they are on. In addition, even if they use relatively small quantities of power, LEDs are still quite good at generating decent amounts of white light. And for those devices which need to output more light, the manufacturers can choose to add more LED bulbs, and when there is less need for illumination, such as those devices which are mostly more for generating atmosphere, then those devices can use fewer LED bulbs. And one other advantage of these types of bulbs is the fact that they last a very long time, which means that it becomes less likely that the property owner will have to replace the bulbs anytime soon. So there are some of the advantages of LEDs, but given these, many of the solar motion lights available choose to use something else, such as halogen light. And this is the case also for a rather important reason.

When it comes to solar powered motion light products, the key here is that these devices are not on all the time. This is what other lights do, but not motion activated ones. Instead, these devices are designed so that they will usually remain off, and if no motion takes place within their immediate vicinities, then they will remain completely off for the entire night. And this is a perfectly acceptable outcome given that the whole point to installing one of these in a particular location is to protect it from intruders. If no motion was detected during the night time, and assuming that the sensor of the light which is able to detect motion is working properly, then it means that no intruder passed within range of the device’s sensor, and so there was indeed no reason for it to turn on at all. Now, the fact that these devices are not usually on is balanced by the fact that they need to be quite bright. The light when tripped has to be bright enough so that any intruder skulking around within the area will become immediately visible both to people within the house as well as persons outside the house. So this means that the light should be quite bright. In addition, the brighter the light, the greater the possibility that its glare will be able to catch an intruder off guard and perhaps dazzle him or her, leading to the hoped for outcome where the intruder runs off or is caught by someone. And since illumination is so key, many of the solar motion lights instead of using LEDs, make use of halogen lights or some other very bright light bulbs. While these may use up more energy and power than the usual bulbs used in solar lights, they possess the brightness which allows them to more fully carry out their functions. So this is one more different between regular solar lights and solar powered motion light devices.
