One of the other decisions you'll have to make while looking for a solar powered post light is what type of finish you'll want. This really goes to your particular personal taste and aesthetic sense, as well as the decor already existing outside your house, and the type of ambiance you want to create for visitors to your place. There is of course the basic black metal finish. It's smooth. It's dark. It looks elegant, and can usually work with whatever particular design the solar light has. It can be modern but it can also be traditional, depending on the overall look of the device. Black is a pretty good choice. It can also be a rather safe choice. No matter what look you have for your place, its interior and its exterior, it can be pretty safe to assume that black will go with whatever else is already there. Another advantage of the black finish is that any dirt or grime which builds up on the device won't be so immediately apparent, compared to a solar light which has more of a lighter color to it, where any dirt will almost immediately stand out. So the color black gives the device a bit more longevity in a sense, so that you won't feel as much pressure to clean it regularly or give it a good wipe down every once in a while. And since you don't need to clean it as much, it's rather easier for homeowners when it comes to maintenance.
That said, it can be possible for a black solar light to be too clean, or too modern, in the eyes of other individuals. A person may wish to install a device with more character, with a surface which isn't so smooth, more or less sending the message that the lamp is brand new. For people like that, another finish which is also available and which might be more suitable is an antique rust finish, giving off the color of dark brown or bronze. While of course the lamp is new and that will still be fairly clear to most people, this particular finish does possess a certain amount of character in that there has been an attempt to make the device look older, more aged, not quite so new. The surface isn't one smooth black color anymore. There's a bit more of a visual texture present, to keep things interesting, and perhaps a little bit more in keeping with the rest of the decor or furnishings of a house, which also possess texture and character. Now of course these are only two of many possible finishes. These are some of the more solid choices, but as with most products out there, solar lights tend to come in many different textures and colors and polishes, in order to allow people to find products which best suit their own aesthetic sense and individual taste. In the end, the important thing is to find a solar powered post light which will blend in with the rest of the residence, and is in harmony with the area where it will be installed.
