One of the most important characteristics of a solar powered post light is the length of time it can remain lit before running out of juice. This will of course depend on a number of thing. It will depend partly on the amount of illumination given off, relating to just how many bulbs the particular solar light has. Holding everything else constant, the more bulbs a device has, the quicker it will deplete its available energy. It will depend on the size and quality of the battery installed in the device. Holding everything else constant, a solar light which has built in a battery which is able to store larger amount of energy will allow that device to stay on longer. Quality is also important because, for instance, it will be rather disappointing if the homeowner were to discover that the battery life of the solar light diminishes significantly over only a short period of time. You want to have a device which will last long enough to get the job done, and be able to do exactly that into the medium and long term if possible. If the battery life appreciably reduces over just a few weeks for instance, it won't take long before the solar light will begin to lose its usefulness. The solar panel is also an important factor in determining how long a particular product can carry out its assigned task through the night.
Even if the battery is able to store relatively larger amounts of energy, if the solar panel which is tasked with filling that battery isn't able to collect all that much solar energy throughout the day, then the battery's capacity will go to waste. And a solar panel may not do a good job for a number of reasons. Some of them may be the fault of the homeowner or the person who installed the solar light, such as its location and ensuring that nothing gets in the way by casting a shadow on the solar panel. Other reasons however stem from the quality of the solar panel itself, such as how efficient it is at converting the sun's rays into electricity as well as just how large it is, or how much surface area it has for receiving the rays of the sun. A lot more can be discussed regarding this topic, but already it is clear that one of the most important things about a solar powered post light, is its ability to make its light last as long as the outside remains dark.
