Solar powered motion light products are different from other solar lights, in terms of how long they’re supposed to be able to operate. For most other solar lights, measuring how long they’re able to operate is a fairly straightforward procedure. Usually, those lights are meant to turn on when it gets dark, and turn off when the sun comes up and it becomes bright out. So it becomes a question of whether the particular light device is able to remain on from the time it gets dark to the time it becomes bright outside again. The specific duration will of course vary depending of the specific location of the property. For some places, the length of the night will be around eight hours, while in other places that period of time may be longer or shorter. This will also depend on the particular month or season. So if the night lasts approximately eight hours and the light is able to remain on for more than eight hours, or at least close to that time then there is no problem. But if the light is not able to last that long, and especially if the amount of time it remains on falls far short of that period of time, then there is a significant problem.
For solar powered motion light devices however, the situation is different because they do not remain on for the entire night. After all, that is not what they are designed to do. Instead, these lights are designed in such a way so that they turn on only for relatively brief periods of time when movement is detected within their vicinities. The amount of time that these lights remain on can usually be adjusted, so that for instance, they can be set to turn on only for a very brief period of time, such as ten seconds, so that whatever energy has been accumulated in the device’s internal battery will last longer, but there is the chance that the intruder or whatever set off the light will not be as visible, when the burst of light turns off. It is also possible for the interval to be set to a longer period, such as a full minute, but this will of course result in the energy in the internal battery being depleted that much faster. So for these devices, it becomes more a question of determining how many times the light can turn on, given a particular setting relating to how long the light remains on. So for someone looking to purchase a solar powered motion light, this is something to keep in mind.
